KYH: Industrial Fashion Shoot (part 1)

I’m writing this post in a bit of a rush, because I’m trying to get ready for a shoot this afternoon and make dinner (lunch, if you’re not from t’North) at the same time. Such is the life of a man trying to fill every hour with minutes. If WordPress does its thing right, this will publish as I’m heading out to shoot.

This afternoon’s shoot is going to be something fashion-y, shot on in an industrial estate in Lancaster. The model and I have batted the words “gritty” and “funky” around, so if that gives you some idea of the kind of thing that we’re going to be shooting then good for you. If not, well, you’ll just have to wait and see what comes out when I post it to the blog.

Some personal aims for this shoot, for the purposes of Keeping Myself Honest:

  • Keep It Simple, Stupid: I’m going to be practicing Zack Arias’s OneLight philosophy and keeping it as simple as I can.
  • Shoot more horizontal images: I’ve noticed that I have a tendency at the moment to shoot lots of vertical images, but not so many horizontal ones. I need to address this; landscape is an excellent orientation for storytelling.
  • This is a fashion editorial: So I need to treat it like one. This FStoppers video is forefront in my mind.
  • Keep it Clean: I’ve had a tendency recently to have cluttered images, so I need to work harder at keeping clean compositions. I’m also banning myself from using vignettes in post.

So there you have it, dear reader. Here’s hoping it goes well.
