Gilded with light

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 211 The main hall of Norwich Cathedral, taken from near the altar. I was amazed that this came out as sharp as it did, considering it was hand held at 1/9 seconds, ISO 200 (my mistake). It’s shots like these that make [...]

Corners

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 208 I’m not dead. This is Norwich Cathedral, taken on a shockingly sunny Sunday with my new Nikon D300 (woot). And yes, I will fill in all of days 190-207, once I have the time.

What whispers did these walls one hear?

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 186 The remains of one of the walls of the great church at St Benet’s Abbey, on the banks of the River Bure. St Benet’s was alone in not being dissolved by Henry VIII. Instead, it was made part of the bishopric [...]

Craftsmanship

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 126 The stained-glass window in the clock tower of the Holy Trinity Church at Casterton, near Kirkby Lonsdale, by the light of the setting sun. Slightly oversaturated (once again, the D40x doing it’s ZOMG! Colourz!!!11! thing), but I like it just the [...]

More shadowplay

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 122 The gate of a churchyard in a village near Lancaster whose name I’ve forgotton (there are quite a few of these and they all have beautiful churches). Once again, it was the shadows that attracted me.

The light of salvation

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 105 St Paul’s church, Brookhouse. This is an interesting image to me for several reasons, but I particularly like the fact that you can’t actually straighten this image up correctly, or at least so it appears. There are two reasons for this: [...]

Gazing Heavenward

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 60 St Paul’s Church belltower, Brookhouse. A bit blown towards the bottom right but still not bad considering the day’s prevailing weather.

The Lesser Saint

Graham Binns posted a photo: Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 35 The arched main doorway of St James the Less church, Westminster. This is a nice shot, but it’s a little too bright (which is why it’s not in colour; shooting in monochrome allowed me to balance out the light better). The [...]
