Waiting for the the tide

Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 170

This ruined old boat sits by the side of the road at Sunderland, on the Lune estuary. I assume that it's still fairly watertight, since it regularly changes position; the first time I saw it it was half buried in the mud of the estuary.

And yet it's still got anchors and mooring ropes attached. I wonder if anyone still uses it...

Taken close-up with the 50mm Nikkor. Monochrome through a blue filter to bring out the veins.

I took this with the aim of capturing the silhouette of a flower, but ended up with a rather interesting study of colour and texture, once again thanks to the D40x doing it's ZOMG, Colourz! thing.

The silhouette is still there though, to the left of the screw.

I found this thing, whatever it is, anchored to a stone that my landlord had discarded when building the extension to his house.

I have no idea what it's for but I loved the patters the rust and lichen made.

The footpath that runs from Harvey Street, Oswaldtwistle, down to the Foxhill Bank Nature reserve.

I was actually just playing about with different exposure settings here, but this one came out quite nicely, if a little dark. I haven't had to do much too it.

About

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat. He has been making things up for as long as he can remember and has been making code work for long enough to make a living from it.

He has written one novel, which is in the process of composting, and is working remembering how to write before embarking on a second. In the meantime, he photographs things, since it's easier not to have to make the world up in his head all of the time.
