Yes, I'm nearly ten days behind with these. I shot a bunch of them in RAW and it's taken me forever to convert them.

Taken at St Patrick's Chapel, Heysham Head. Note the brown sea. Gotta love Heysham.

I'm getting behind in uploading these, I'm afraid; I'll try to catch up this week.

Taken at St Patrick's Chapel, Heysham Head. These flowers were alone in a corner of the ruins, without a card or any sort of dedication. They seemed poignant and bright on a grim, dark, grey day.

Three Hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 25

I went a-roving today, armed with my D40x (I'm coveting a D300 but that can wait a while, I think) and my shiny new 10-20mm Sigma lens.

Heysham Head, where the ruins of St Patrick's Chapel stand, is one of those places where the bones of the Earth show through; bleak, wild and utterly beautiful, spoiled of course by the monsterous shap of Heysham nuclear power station in the background. The hollows in the rock are graves which are thought to date from the 11th century, hewn out of the stone.

This was taken at 10mm. I used the Gimp's nifty liquid rescale plugin to turn it into a panoramic-looking shot and tweaked the levels a bit to bring out the threatening colour in the clouds. The colour of the sea is actually pretty acurate, if a little darker than in reality. I also cloned out the bright red lifebelt stand that was sticking out like a very annoying sore thumb.

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat.
