I've never understood why people hate dandelions or daisies or buttercups. Sure, if you want a perfect green croquet lawn then they might be a scourge but otherwise why hate something so spontaneous and hardy and beautiful?

I'm particularly pleased with how the stamina came out in this shot, especially when you consider that I was shooting it with a lens that really isn't meant for this kind of work at all.

Summer's first blooming, part the second

And next to yesterday's cherry blossom, we have pear blossom. And I mean next to as in "right next to," because the two trees, sakura and pear, are intertwined with each other, sharing a living space in the centre of the old orchard that more-or-less acts as our garden, menagerie and wildlife reserve.

The Cherry Blossoms are blooming in our garden again, always a welcome sight.

Soon they'll start showering the car with pink-petal snow and we shall curse as they clog up the windscreen wipers and make it difficult to get out of the drive without hitting the wall.

But for now, they are a sign of summer.

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat. He has been making things up for as long as he can remember and has been making code work for long enough to make a living from it.

He has written one novel, which is in the process of composting, and is working remembering how to write before embarking on a second. In the meantime, he photographs things, since it's easier not to have to make the world up in his head all of the time.
