A brief idea that popped into my head when I was sorting out a suitcase full of clothes. I could've used the guitar as a prop but figured that since I'd done that only a day before I probably shouldn't do it again.

Also, for some reason, I appear not to be wearing socks. Odd, that.

Taken as Big Ben was striking midnight to ring in the 8th of February. Of course, the bastards turned off the floodlights just as the chimes began, leading to this image being a damn sight darker than I would have liked. I just like the way the leftmost clock face stands out of the darkness.

This was taken from the far side of Westminster bridge with a 200mm lens and steady hands.

Lancaster Priory at night.

I don't like this shot all that much, but it was cold and dark and the light was very poor, so I did the best I could (I would have photographed Manchester Cathedral earlier, but didn't have my camera with me for various reasons).

I do like the reflections in the paving stones; I just wish I hadn't had to crop down the left hand side of the image to remove an importunate litter bin.

Night-time walk

Three-hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, Day 18

I had a couple of ideas for today's photo, one of which I didn't have time to try but which I might try tomorrow. This was the other one.

Taken on the cycle path, Crook O'Lune, near Lancaster, at about quarter to eleven at night. I'm not hugely fond of this; there really wasn't enough light to work with, but it does have a certain dark and lonely quality to it, which is what I was after. I like the fact that there's still colour at this time of night.

Really, I wish I'd had more time to compose this. It would probably have worked better if I'd been closer to the ground (though I'd need a much smaller tripod for that, or very, very steady hands). I also wish that I'd done it earlier in the day.

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat.
