Season's greetings, young one

Season's greetings, young one

Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 73

Spring is one of the great times to live in the countryside. Lambs are popping up everywhere, gladdening even the flintiest of hearts.

I wanted to call this picture "I has a flavour," but I decided against it.

The only thing about this image that I don't like is that the lamb's tail is tied off near the top. The farmers do this as a means of docking the tail; the tie cuts of the blood supply and eventually the majority of the tail will drop off, having died. Personally I think it's barbaric, but maybe that's just me.

I took this whilst wandering around looking for other things to photograph (and by other things I mean wooly, four legged things, since there are quite a few around these days and they like pose for the camera).

I just liked the way the 10mm lens made the road look, but my other half has pointed out to me that there used to be two posts on that sign...

Lonely Barn, Revisited

Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 61

This is slightly running-out-of-ideas-y, but seeing as how we were up there yesterday with the sun shining, bringing out the colour in the scrubby grass, I decided that it was worth it.

I also like the fact that said barn actually has a cousin in the far distance.

This is the barn that I was shooting next to for yesterday's photo.

I said that I was going to try to capture it at sunrise, but this, its most interesting face, would be in shadow if I did that, so I took this about an hour before sunset instead.

I thought about altering the colours on this, but in the end all I did was desaturate it slightly to compensate for the fact that I'd left my camera set on Nikon's "OMG Cullorz!" saturation mode.

About

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat. He has been making things up for as long as he can remember and has been making code work for long enough to make a living from it.

He has written one novel, which is in the process of composting, and is working remembering how to write before embarking on a second. In the meantime, he photographs things, since it's easier not to have to make the world up in his head all of the time.
