Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 43

Taken outside the White Cross pub on the Lancaster canal.

Yes, I'm well aware that I'm doing too many sunset shots (or at least that in this case I should've brought the tripod and tried to do some HDR work). I'm also aware that there's too many shadows in this shot. But it was shot in a hurry and I couldn't resist the stillness of the water.

Sunset on the Lune, taken at Halton, just a few hundred metres away from the less-than-photogenic sewage treatment works.

Again, there's nothing special about this photo, yet I'm oddly fond of it. Perhaps it's the colours that do it for me, I don't know.

Taken with the 10mm lens and a linear polariser. Just a shame that the ISO setting ended up so high.

Playing with reflections

Three-hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 21

This started off as an attempt at a bog-standard, in the mirror self portrait, but then the tiny reflections in the droplets of condensation caught my eye.

I told myself that I was trying to illustrate how observing a thing, in this case the droplets, changes the thing. But in hindsight I think I was being incredibly pretentious.

I wish I had a macro lens for this kind of thing.

About

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat. He has been making things up for as long as he can remember and has been making code work for long enough to make a living from it.

He has written one novel, which is in the process of composting, and is working remembering how to write before embarking on a second. In the meantime, he photographs things, since it's easier not to have to make the world up in his head all of the time.
