Institutionalisation
Oh do fuck off, the Rt. Hon. Liam Byrne.

The identity card scheme will become a "great British institution" on a par with the railways in the 19th Century, Home Office minister Liam Byrne says.

I pay for (upto) 8Mbps broadband. I usually get circa 4.5 - 5Mbps download, 512Kbps - 1Mbps upload.
Since we've been reconnected (yay!) I've had upload speeds of 400-odd Kbps, which is okay, and download speeds of 120Kbps, which is most definitely not.
If we assume that in this context 1Kb = 1 kibibyte (i.e. 210 bytes), then that's just over 38 times slower than usual. Thirty eight.
And yet somehow I'm managing. Perhaps it's because torrent download speeds are capped at 15Kbps on F2S. Just a thought.

BBC News: Young 'forget Jesus at Christmas'
Fewer than half of children aged seven to 11 think Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, a survey suggests.Unsurprising, really, given that Christmas really isn't about religion these days, or at least not in Britain. I'd say it's a refreshing perspective to have. I'd be tempted to discuss the origins of Christmas as a celebration with said children, and encourage them to ask questions about it (like "why pine trees when there weren't any in Bethlehem?" and suchlike).
I like Christmas. I like the atmosphere and the goodwill-to-all feeling. It has nothing to do with religion - I'm an atheist FFS. It's a shame that it has grown out of a religious festival, because that means that those who lean towards pedantry can accuse me of betraying my lack of beliefs by putting up a tree and giving presents to people.
Personally, I see it as a way of celebrating the end of another year, and of showing your feelings to the ones you love. What does Christmas mean to you?
There's just no good way to tackle this book.
From The USA in Bible Prophecy:
This book clearly shows that America (Zion) is the land set aside by God Almighty to be the place of regathered Israel. Sermons and documents by the Founding Fathers testify to their belief that they were the Israel people of the latter days, and that the Old Testament prophecies were being fulfilled in their undertakings.Less religion, Graham, more writing. That's what the punters want.

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and
software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too
much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent
hat. He has been making things up for as long as he
can remember and has been making code work for long enough
to make a living from it.
He has written one novel, which is in the process of
composting, and is working remembering how to write before
embarking on a second. In the meantime, he photographs
things, since it's easier not to have to make the world up
in his head all of the time.
