Nature works in mysterious ways

Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 72

A gnarled tree on the south bank of the Lune at Halton. How it managed to get to this shape I don't know.

This is black and white because I managed to massively overexpose it. Monochroming it and playing with the contrast allowed me to bring out the texture far more than a colour image would've.

The Jason Queally Millenium Footbridge over the Lune at Lancaster.

Took this with the 18-55mm lens (which I later regretted as it meant that I cropped the top off the bridge) and a red filter to darken the sky.

Once again I'm cooped up in the house and struggling for inspiration. This isn't anything special, just your average sunset shot, but it was a cool, peaceful evening and photographing it made me feel a little less narked about not having anything new to photograph.

Female Mallard at Crook o'Lune. I particularly like the beads of water on her underbelly and the blue of her wing feathers.

Sunset on the Lune, taken at Halton, just a few hundred metres away from the less-than-photogenic sewage treatment works.

Again, there's nothing special about this photo, yet I'm oddly fond of it. Perhaps it's the colours that do it for me, I don't know.

Taken with the 10mm lens and a linear polariser. Just a shame that the ISO setting ended up so high.

About

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat. He has been making things up for as long as he can remember and has been making code work for long enough to make a living from it.

He has written one novel, which is in the process of composting, and is working remembering how to write before embarking on a second. In the meantime, he photographs things, since it's easier not to have to make the world up in his head all of the time.
