Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 122

The gate of a churchyard in a village near Lancaster whose name I've forgotton (there are quite a few of these and they all have beautiful churches).

Once again, it was the shadows that attracted me.

Three hundred and sixty-odd days of 2008, day 105 St Paul's church, Brookhouse. This is an interesting image to me for several reasons, but I particularly like the fact that you can't actually straighten this image up correctly, or at least so it appears. There are two reasons for this: 1. There's a fair amount of distortion with the lens (10-20mm) that I was using, so the doorway seems a bit bow-legged. 2. The tower really does slant at that crazy angle. As you can see, the sides are stepped. It's a sort of half tower, half steeple job.

St Paul's Church belltower, Brookhouse. A bit blown towards the bottom right but still not bad considering the day's prevailing weather.

The Lesser Saint

The Lesser Saint

The arched main doorway of St James the Less church, Westminster.

This is a nice shot, but it's a little too bright (which is why it's not in colour; shooting in monochrome allowed me to balance out the light better).

The church itself is a weird one; a big red brick tower in the middle of blocks of office buildings. Still, I like interesting things, which is why I took the photo. Also, I like the fact that it's called St James the Less.

About

Graham Binns is a writer, photographer, musician and software developer from Lancaster, England, with far too much hair, a penchant for odd t-shirts and a magnificent hat. He has been making things up for as long as he can remember and has been making code work for long enough to make a living from it.

He has written one novel, which is in the process of composting, and is working remembering how to write before embarking on a second. In the meantime, he photographs things, since it's easier not to have to make the world up in his head all of the time.
